Pour une approche socialement située de l’évaluation de l'information chez les adolescents

In this article, we focus on how adolescents evaluate information, proposing to consider it as a diagnostic activity involving a set of cognitive, psychological and social processes. These processes aim both to filter information according to its relevance and to assess its consistency and credibility, as well as the trustworthiness of its source. This evaluation and the cognitive processes it involves are inseparable from the activity and the cultural and social context in which they take place. The evaluation of information must therefore be approached from a multidimensional perspective that considers both cognitive processes and the social differences that characterize the reception of information, understood here as all media content related to current events, as well as the unique dispositions of individuals in their discussion of information with others. We present data from the observatory of digital practices among adolescents in Normandy (for the year 2023) to support these considerations. These results are discussed in light of the relationship between the concepts of activity patterns and interpersonal regulation, specific to cognitive psychology, and the concepts of informational and social habitus, derived from sociological approaches and Information and Communication Sciences (ICS).
